COP 1140 Professional Development for Psychology Majors 1 QH

Introduces students to professional opportunities in the field of psychology. Provides strategies for successful career management. Introduces students to the cooperative education curriculum. Additional topics to be covered include self-assessment and career planning, rsum and interview preparation, undergraduate research, professional behavior, and other topics relevant to a student's success in school and work.

COP 1180 Career Decision-Making 4 QH

Focuses on needs and concerns of students who are undecided or uncertain about their academic major or career direction. Using a series of assessment exercises and class discussion, students identify their work values, interests, skills, and personality preferences as these relate to choice of major and career options. Provides a strong emphasis on career exploration through print and electronic research and informational interviews with professionals in the individual student's field of interest. Discusses how labor market trends and workplace issues impact career choice. Emphasizes decision-making and goal-setting strategies and encourages students to develop an action plan for their next steps. Prereq. Freshmen or sophomores in any major or permission of instructor.

COP 1181 Career Decision-Making 1 QH

Focuses on needs and concerns of students who are undecided or uncertain about their academic major or career direction. Introduces students to self-assessment and career exploration through assessment exercises, class discussion, and research. Prereq. Freshman or sophomores in any major or permission of instructor.

COP 1220 Working in the United States 4 QH

Helps international students compete more effectively for cooperative education positions in the United States and assists them in their cultural transition into the American workforce. Considers work-oriented cross-cultural issues, the American work ethic, skills development, rsum writing, and interviewing techniques. Prereq. International students prior to first co-op experience or permission of instructors.

COP 1300 Professional Development for Communication Majors 1 QH

Contributes to the professional development of communication majors by helping them acquire the professional skills and tools required for success: a polished rsum and sample cover letter, research skills, interviewing techniques, and guidelines for professional behavior and communication. Introduces students to the philosophy, features, and requirements of Northeastern University's Cooperative Education Program.

COP 1320 Professional Development for English Majors 1 QH

Contributes to the professional development of English majors by helping them acquire the professional skills and tools required for success: a polished rsum and sample cover letter, research skills, interviewing techniques, and guidelines for professional behavior and communication. Introduces students to the philosophy, features, and requirements of Northeastern University's Cooperative Education Program.

COP 1314 Life/Career Planning 4 QH

Assists students with the transition from school to the workplace. Students identify their career interests and values, and assess skills and personality preferences to help them make better career decisions. Emphasizes labor market issues, job search techniques, networking, and career management strategies. Prepares students for the job search process by requiring them to complete a professional rsum, participate in videotaped mock interviews, and research companies. Prereq. Junior or senior standing or permission of instructor.

COP 1350 Pharmacy Co-op Seminar 1 QH

Introduces and prepares the pharmacy student for the experiential component of the pharmacy curriculum. Introduces the student to policies and procedures of the Department of Cooperative Education. Provides students with an opportunity to develop the skills necessary to be successful in the preparation, activity, and reflection components of the cooperative education curriculum. Offers students an understanding of the various opportunities that are available to them in the profession of pharmacy. Pharmacy students are introduced to the technical skills and beginning skills required in both community and institutional pharmacy practice.

COP 1360 Athletic Training Co-op Seminar 1 QH

Introduces and prepares athletic training students for the cooperative education component of the athletic training curriculum. Introduces students to policies and procedures of the Department of Cooperative Education. Provides students with an opportunity to develop the skills necessary to be successful in the preparation, activity, and reflection components of the cooperative learning curriculum. Offers students an opportunity to develop job search techniques and job survival skills.

COP 1370 Nursing Career Management 1 QH

Students will have an opportunity to identify skills; develop job-finding, job-survival, and career management skills; and learn about the nursing co-op program.

COP 1380 Issues in Criminal Justice Co-op 1 QH

Introduces and prepares criminal justice students for the experiential component as a complement to the criminal justice curriculum. Introduces students to the policies and procedures of the Department of Cooperative Education. Provides students with an opportunity to develop the skills necessary to be successful in the preparation, activity, and reflection components of the cooperative education learning curriculum. Offers students an opportunity to develop job search techniques and provides students insight into the current job market.
