College of Engineering Transition Criteria

Eligibility

Current undergraduate day school students who have been at the university at least one semester and have a cumulative GPA of 2.000 or above are eligible to apply to change their major.

  • Direct Entry: Students who have a Northeastern GPA of 3.200 or above
  • Provisional Semester: Students who have a Northeastern GPA of 2.000–3.199

Deadlines

Students must submit all change-of-major materials no later than six weeks before the first day of classes for the term in which they wish to enroll.

Process

Students interested in changing their major to the College of Engineering are required to attend an Engineering Wednesday Information Session.  These occur each Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. in the Admissions Visitor Center, West Village F.

Schedule an appointment with the change-of-major advisor by contacting the Undergraduate Engineering Student Services office. Please stop by 220 Snell Engineering Center or call 617.373.2154.

Bring to your appointment:

  • Unofficial transcript from Northeastern
  • Degree audit for your new major
  • Personal statement referencing science and math studies and indicating why you wish to transfer to the College of Engineering
  • Proof of attendance at an Engineering Wednesday presentation

Provisional Semester

Students who have been accepted on a provisional basis must meet with the change-of-major advisor before the first-day of classes to sign a Provisional Contract. The contract states that students must achieve a semester GPA of 2.800 or higher in four advisor-approved required courses.
