School and College Transition Criteria

Majors in the College of Computer and Information Science

Note: The criteria below are in addition to the GPA and advisor-discussion criteria outlined on the changing-majors main page.

Regular or Provisional Admission

Students' overall academic performance and grades in CS and MATH courses will be reviewed by the college. If a student has taken the following:

CS 1800 Discrete Structures (4 SH)
or CS 2500 Fundamentals of Computer Science 1 (4 SH)
or a MATH course numbered below MATH 1342

then he or she must have earned at least a B grade to be eligible for consideration for admission or provisional admission to the college.

Regular Admission

Eligible students will be directly admitted into the College of Computer and Information Science if their overall GPA is 2.800 or higher.

Provisional Admission

An eligible student with a GPA of 2.000 to 2.800 must meet with an academic advisor to be admitted to the College of Computer and Information Science as a provisional student for one semester. At the end of the one provisional semester, to remain in the college, a student must have earned a minimum of a grade of B in the following courses:

CS 1800 Discrete Structures (4 SH)
CS 2500 Fundamentals of Computer Science 1 (4 SH)
Any other MATH course taken

In addition, they must have completed a minimum of 16 semester hours and have a term GPA of at least 2.660.
