Changing Majors
School and College Transition Criteria

Majors in the Bouvé College of Health Sciences

Note: The criteria below are in addition to the GPA and advisor-discussion criteria outlined on the changing-majors main page.

Health Science

Any student who meets the following criteria is eligible for entry:

  • Overall GPA of 3.000 or better
  • Required science GPA of 3.000
  • Completion of Biology 1 with lab, with a grade of C or better
  • Completion of Chemistry 1 with lab, with a grade of C or better
  • Completion of Calculus 1, with a grade of C or better

Students who have an overall GPA of 2.000–2.999 and who have grades of C or better in any required science courses may be admitted for a provisional semester. Provisional admission occurs only for the fall and spring semesters. Students will work with the appropriate major advisor to choose four courses (4 credits each) to be taken during the provisional semester. Students must earn a current-term GPA of 3.000 for the provisional semester with no grade below a C in any course.


Nursing

Any student who meets the following criteria is eligible for entry:

  • Overall GPA of 3.000 or better
  • Required science GPA of 3.000
  • Completion of Anatomy and Physiology 1 with lab, with a grade of C or better
  • Completion of Chemistry 1 with lab or Microbiology with lab, with a grade of C or better

Students who have an overall GPA of 2.000–2.999 and who have grades of C or better in any required science courses may be admitted for a provisional semester. Provisional admission occurs only for the fall and spring semesters. Students will work with the appropriate major advisor to choose four courses (4 credits each) to be taken during the provisional semester. Students must earn a current-term GPA of 3.000 for the provisional semester with no grade below a C in any course.


Pharmacy

Any student who meets the following criteria is eligible for entry:

  • Overall GPA of 3.500 or better
  • Required science GPA of 3.500
  • Completion of Biology 1 with lab, with a grade of B or better
  • Completion of Chemistry 1 with lab, with a grade of B or better

The School of Pharmacy has specialized accreditation. Students with GPA below 3.500 are not eligible for entry. Students admitted to the pharmacy major will need to adhere to progression policies to enter the third year of the program, also known as the P1, professional year of the program. An interview is required.

Students who have not completed the required biology or chemistry course may be admitted for a provisional semester. Provisional admission occurs only for the fall and spring semesters. Students will work with the appropriate major advisor to choose four courses (4 credits each) to be taken during the provisional semester. Students must earn a current-term GPA of 3.500 for the provisional semester with no grade below a B in any course.


Physical Therapy

Any student who meets the following criteria is eligible for entry:

  • Overall GPA of 3.300 or better
  • Required science GPA of 3.000
  • Completion of Anatomy and Physiology 1 with lab, with a grade of C or better
  • Completion of Chemistry 1 with lab or Physics 1 with lab, with a grade of C or better

The Department of Physical Therapy has specialized accreditation. Students with GPA below 3.300 are not eligible for entry. Students admitted to the physical therapy major will need to adhere to progression policies to enter the third year of the program, also known as the P1, professional year of the program.

Students who have not completed the required anatomy and physiology course or the required chemistry/physics course may be admitted for a provisional semester. Provisional admission occurs only for the fall and spring semesters. Students will work with the appropriate major advisor to choose four courses (4 credits each) to be taken during the provisional semester. Students must earn a current-term GPA of 3.300 for the provisional semester with no grade below a C in any course.


Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology

Any student who meets the following criteria is eligible for entry:

  • Overall GPA of 3.000 or better
  • Required science GPA of 3.000
  • Completion of Anatomy & Physiology 1 with lab, with a grade of C or better
  • Completion of one term of Calculus, with a grade of C or better

Students who have an overall GPA of 2.000–2.999 and who have grades of C or better in any required science courses may be admitted for a provisional semester. Provisional admission occurs only for the fall and spring semesters. Students will work with the appropriate major advisor to choose four courses (4 credits each) to be taken during the provisional semester. Students must earn a current-term GPA of 3.000 for the provisional semester with no grade below a C in any course.
