Detailed Registration Instructions
Overview
Starting on March 31, undergraduate matriculated students will use the
new Banner Self Service registration system to register for Fall 2009
courses. This guide is to help you through that process
As in the past, you will access the registration website through the
myNEU
portal. There you will find an additional link titled “Register
for Fall 2009 classes.” To prepare for fall registration, as in
the past, it is recommended that you search for the course sections you
wish to register for ahead of time and plan out your schedule, including
some alternative courses should certain sections be unavailable. Access
to the Fall 2009 course catalog is now available on the myNEU
portal.
Web Reg General Schedule
Fall 2009 registration for undergraduate day students will begin on Tuesday,
March 31, at 8:00 AM. All students will be assigned a Time Ticket
(replacing the current PASS system) further defining when they will have
access to register. Until the date and time of your Time Ticket arrives,
you will not be able to register for Fall 2009 classes, although
you will be able to search the course offerings and plan your schedule.
Your Time Ticket is based on your current earned hours and on the last
two digits of your NUID. Time
Ticket Schedule.

Adding Classes
Selecting a Term
Once you have selected the “Add/Drop Classes” link, you will
be asked to select the term for which you wish to register. Do this by
choosing a term from the pull-down menu that appears. Please be careful
in your selection—there are Graduate, Undergraduate and CPS (quarter)
terms—you must select the correct term to find the courses for which
you wish to register.
Adding Classes—CRN or Search
- Select “Add/Drop Classes” from the menu.
- If you have not yet selected a term, you will
be prompted to do so. Carefully select the appropriate undergraduate
term (Fall Semester 2009).
- There are two ways to add a course:
- Register via CRN:
- Type CRNs into the worksheet at the bottom of the page.
- Click “Submit Changes.”
- Register by searching for a course:
- Click “Class Search” at the bottom of the page.
- Enter criteria on which you would like to search (see “Searching
for a Course” below for detailed search instructions).
- From the list of courses returned, select the course(s) for
which you would like to register by clicking the checkbox on
the far left of the listing(s).
- Click “Register.”
Special Note About Corequisite Courses: Courses
which have a corequisite must be added at the same time. For example,
to register for BIOL 1111 (with corequisite BIOL 1112) you must enter
the CRN of both a section of BIOL 1111 and a section of BIOL 1112
in the worksheet at the bottom of the page at the same time.
- Courses successfully added will appear at the
top of the page under “Current Schedule”. You’re done!
- Courses which encounter a registration error
will appear in the middle of the page with information about the specific
error encountered. (See “Registration Errors” below for
detailed explanations.)
Searching for a Course
If you do not know the CRN of the course(s) you would like to add, you
may search for courses by clicking the “Class Search” button
at the bottom of the “Add/Drop Classes” page.
The search engine offers many criteria on which to search—only
Subject is required. In general it is better to use only two or three
criteria—entering more may be too restrictive.
After entering criteria, click “Find Classes” at the bottom
of the page. This will return a list of courses which match your search.
Those courses available for registration will have a checkbox on the far
left of the listing.
To register, click the course(s) you would like and than click “Register”
at the bottom of the page.
Use the following hints to find the courses you’re looking for:
- Subject: You MUST enter a subject. No other search
criteria is required. Select a subject carefully. Subject code is not
the same as department. You may use the Ctrl key on your keyboard to
choose more than one subject from the list or the Shift key on your
keyboard to select an entire group of subjects.
- Course Number: This is the
course number only. Enter the four digit course number that you are
searching for or enter a partial course number to search for all courses
within that level (i.e. enter a 1 for all one thousand level courses).
For example, if you are looking for ENGL 1200, you would select the
Subject of “ENGL—English” and the Course Number 1200.
- Title: Avoid searching on
title. If the title you enter is not an exact match to the abbreviated
title in the registration system, the search will not find the course.
If you do search on title, use only a single keyword or part of a keyword
in the title. Words within titles may not be spelled out. Always begin
and end your title query with percent signs (i.e. to search for “Composition,”
you should enter a search that looks like this: %Comp%).
- Part-of-Term: This option
allows you to search for courses which meet for the full term, first
half, second half, or quarters. Use this option only if you want to
limit your search to one part of term.
- Attribute Type: This option
allows you to search by course category— including those which
meet certain core requirements.
- Start Time: Select the earliest
start time that you are looking for and choose “AM” or “PM.”
If you only select a start time and an end time is not entered, all
courses that start at this time or later will be returned.
- End Time: Select the latest
end time that you are looking for and choose “AM” or “PM.”
If you only select an end time and a start time is not entered, all
courses that end at this time or earlier will be returned.
- Days: Selecting a day will
show you all courses which include that day. For example, selecting
MW will give you all courses which meet Monday and Wednesday and all
courses which meet Monday, Wednesday and Friday or any other combination
including Monday and Wednesday.

may prevent registration or restrict the courses you will be permitted
to select.
If you have questions or concerns about any of the information that you
find on this page, please contact the Registrar’s Office.
Schedules
Banner offers two schedule options: “Week at a Glance” and
“Student Detail Schedule.” The “Week at a Glance”
option is a grid format. Courses which meet in a future part of term (i.e.
second-half courses which have not yet begun) and arranged courses (with
no scheduled days or times) appear as separate links at the bottom of
the page. The “Student Detail Schedule” is a listing of registered
courses which includes days, time, instructor, location, title, credit
hours, etc. Schedules are “real-time,” which means that they
are accurate up to the moment. As soon as a course is added or dropped
in registration, it is added or dropped from the schedule.
