Jay R. Kaufman, Director

Jay R. Kaufman serves as the founding director of Northeastern University’s center for Leadership and Public Life. Before launching the Center, Jay had taught in and managed the University’s leadership cohort program and had also taught at Tufts University and Brandeis University. He has recently worked with legislators from around the country, the Cabinet and staff of an incoming Governor, the leadership team of a public school district, leaders and managers of a county government, two classes of promising leaders from minority communities, and a mixed group of community leaders that included representation from local government, churches, civic groups, and state agencies.

Since 1995, Jay has also served in the Massachusetts House of Representatives JayKaufman.com and chairs the legislature’s Committee on Revenue. His monthly “OPEN HOUSE” public policy forum, now in its fifteenth season, has been recognized with the prestigious Beacon Award as the nation’s best televised government relations series.
