Vice Provost for Institutional Diversity & Inclusion
With experience in government, healthcare nonprofit, and higher education, John brings a deep knowledge of working within an organization to engage stakeholders and enhance a culture of healthy diversity.
Prior to joining Northeastern, John served as Associate Director of the Office of Diversity and Inclusion at Yale University, where he directed diversity programming aimed at creating an organizational culture of inclusion and consulted with senior leadership and academic departments to advance and align diversity efforts.
John worked with stakeholders across the university community to strengthen diversity efforts. He collaborated with the Provost and professional schools to update diversity recruitment materials and to create a climate of inclusiveness in order to attract and retain underrepresented faculty. He also developed ongoing diversity awareness and leadership programs for students. He was instrumental in launching Yale’s Human Resources diversity webpage and crafting strategy for communicating diversity efforts to the university, prospective employees, and the larger community.
Prior to his tenure at Yale, John was the Director of Diversity Programs at Capitol City Rehabilitation Group, where he was involved in strategic diversity planning for business expansion, recruiting, and diversity leadership training. John has also worked at Planned Parenthood Federation of America, the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center at the University of Texas, and the Texas Department of Health.
John graduated from the University of Texas at San Antonio in 1991 and went on to earn a Master of Arts in Education from the University of Texas at Austin. He has just completed his doctorate in Educational Leadership from Johnson and Wales University.
