PROTECT Trainee Luis Rivera Defends Thesis

Congratulations to Project 3 trainee/researcher Luis Rivera, who defended his PhD in Environmental Health at the University of Michigan, School of Public Health on April 30th, 2012!  Originally from San Juan Puerto Rico, Luis received his Bachelor’s Degree in Biology from the Interamerican University of Puerto Rico, before going on to complete a Master’s Degree in Environmental Health at the University of Puerto Rico. In his recent defense, he detailed his work researching air pollution exposure and preterm birth in Mexico City, for which he also served as project coordinator along with Dr. David Cantonwine. While Luis primarily does PROTECT research for Project 3, under his advisor Prof. John Meeker, he also works closely with Projects 1-4 to promote participant recruitment, biological sample tracking, and database development that support the PROTECT group as a whole and will be staying on as a postdoc.
