Northeastern University celebrated its 112th commencement exercises on May 2, 2014. More than 3,500 seniors received diplomas at the ceremony at TD Garden in Boston where Janet Napolitano, the commencement speaker, LL COOL J, and former NFL player Wade Davis II received honorary degrees.
Homecoming Weekend and Empowerfest
The Northeastern community celebrated the university-wide launch of its $1 billion Empower campaign with Empowerfest, an exciting showcase featuring dozens of interactive exhibits that served as the centerpiece of Homecoming Weekend.
State of the University
At the annual State of the University event, President Joseph E. Aoun was joined by Stephen Director, Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs, Richard Daynard, University Distinguished Professor of Law, Diane MacGillivray, Senior Vice President for University Advancement and Nick Naraghi, Student Body President in the Student Government Association.

President Joseph E. Aoun and Boston Mayor Thomas Menino celebrated the Topping Off ceremony of the GrandMarc, the new student residence hall at Northeastern University adjacent to the YMCA building and New England Conservatory.

Northeastern University celebrated its 111th commencement at TD Garden in Boston. More than 3,200 graduating seniors received diplomas. Jim Yong Kim, World Bank President, delivered the commencement address to a crowd of about 20,000.
Innovation in Higher Ed Summit
Northeastern University released a national opinion survey about the public’s attitudes toward the future of higher education in the U.S. The release of the results was followed by a panel discussion on the same topic.
Veterans Day Ceremony
Northeastern University observes Veterans Day at the Veterans Memorial on campus. President Joseph E. Aoun welcomed Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano, the guest of honor. Other speakers included President Aoun, Student Veterans Organization President Michael Trudeau and LTC Blaise Gallahue. Three Dog tags were added to the memorial wall for alumni.
D’Amore-McKim Naming Ceremony
President Joseph E. Aoun and the Board of Trustees host faculty, students, staff and alumni during the official naming ceremony of the new D'Amore-McKim School of Business, formerly the College of Business Administration, in Blackman Auditorium. Northeastern alumni Richard D'Amore, BA'76, and Alan McKim, MBA'88, joined forces to make the largest philanthropic investment in the university’s history.
President Aoun hosts Washington reception
President Joseph E. Aoun hosted a reception in Washington for members of Congress, Department of Education leaders, faculty and alumni. Earlier in the day, Aoun chaired his first American Council on Education meeting, and later met with lawmakers on issues important to higher education.

Northeastern University's undergraduate Class of 2012 received their degrees during the morning commencement exercises at the TD Garden in Boston. Former Secretary of State Colin Powell delivered the commencement address at the ceremony.
