Telephone Outreach for the Fund for the Public Interest
Approximate Deadline: ASAP
The assistant director of the Telephone Outreach Project for the Fund for the Public Interest is looking to hire smart, hardworking students who want to change the world. The Fund is a national nonprofit that recruits members, raises money, and runs grassroots campaigns for many progressive non-profits, including Environment America and U.S.PIRG, but right now their biggest campaign is with Environment Massachusetts.
Environment Massachusetts is a state-wide citizen-based environmental lobby group whose professional staff combines independent research, practical ideas, and tough minded advocacy to preserve our state’s natural beauty, protect people in Massachusetts from pollution, and right now they’re fighting to stop the spread of fracking.
Geologists recently found shale gas in Western Mass, now the oil and gas industry may try to bring fracking here. In states like Pennsylvania, fracking is already polluting drinking water, making families sick, and turning rural landscapes into industrial zones.
So Environment Massachusetts is working to protect our environment and our health by keeping fracking out of Massachusetts through a ban in the legislature.
They can only get our elected officials to take action by building public support and putting pressure on them to stand up for issues their constituents care about, like fracking.
On the other hand, companies like Halliburton and ExxonMobil have spent millions of dollars in other states to sway votes and expand fracking, but we can stop them from ever drilling here if we show enough public support.
They are looking for students eager to join them to stop fracking, and work on some of the most progressive environmental and public interest issues of the day. They are hiring for part time positions in the evening, and you can earn up to $15/hr plus bonuses and benefits. To find out all the details on how you can join them and make a difference, you can contact Claire Downs at firstname.lastname@example.org, apply online at fundforthepublicinterest.org, or call at 617-292-4823.
