The dialogue entitled “Belo Horizonte: Brazil in the 21st Century: A Comparative Study of the Development of a Globalizing Nation: The FIFA World Cup, Olympics, Oil Reserves, and the Global Context of the Portuguese Language” takes students on a journey within an emerging global power. Assistant Professor Thomas Vicino and Ph.D candidate Simone Elias traveled with students to various landmarks in Brazil. The political science course offered on this dialogue focused on economic development issues in Brazil’s third largest city in anticipation of the 2014 World Cup.
During the program, students met with a partner at Centro Universitário UNA in Belo Horizonte. The interaction with Brazilian students was crucial to the learning process.
The group also visited Mineirao Stadium, one of the venues to be used in the 2014 World Cup.
