Jennapher Lunde Seefeldt is a doctoral candidate in the Department of Political Science, whose studies focus on comparative politics and American politics. She has been a teaching assistant for courses including Introduction to Comparative Politics, Introduction to International Relations, and International Conflict and Negotiation.
Research Interests
Jennapher’s research interests include non-democratic and pseudo-democratic regimes, in particular those in Latin America. Her dissertation will examine the repression of freedom of speech rights, exploring the abilities of ruling regimes to limit these rights with few repercussions. Prior work has focused on this specific issue in Hugo Chavez’s Venezuela. She has presented on this topic at the Northeastern Political Science Association’s annual conference in both 2010 and 2012.
Prior Work and Education
Several internships have provided Jennapher with great experiences, strengthening her understanding of political processes and enabling her to demonstrate her gained knowledge while teaching in the classroom. She has interned with the Department of Labor Office in her hometown of Watertown, SD, spent a semester in Washington, DC interning for Congresswoman Stephanie Herseth Sandlin, and was an independent observer for the Federal Judicial Center. Jennapher has also been a research assistant for Professor William Crotty, Thomas P. O’Neill Chair in Public Life at Northeastern University, assisting him with various projects.
Biography
Jennapher earned her Bachelor of Arts from Augustana College in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, where she graduated with government/international affairs and Spanish as majors, with history as a minor. She graduated Cum Laude with departmental honors in government/international affairs, and was inducted into the International History Honor Society and National Collegiate Hispanic Honor Society. More recently, she was inducted into the National Political Science Honor Society and the Golden Key International Honour Society.
In her free time, Jennapher enjoys spending time with her husband, Brock, and her dog, Josie. She also enjoys running, cooking, and travelling when she has breaks from the academic schedule.
