Welcome to Spring Semester 2015!

Open Classroom will begin NEXT WEEK on January 14th.

The Spring 2015 Myra Kraft Open Classroom will provide a spectacular view of the 21st century city exploring how cities in the U.S. and around the globe are transforming demographically, economically, socially, and politically.  The Open Classroom begins with an exploration of the functions of cities and how these are carried out in practice.

With an array of extraordinary guest lecturers ranging from mayors and state officials to academics who have studied cities throughout the world, this semester’s Open Classroom continues by investigating the opportunities and challenges facing the modern city including such issues as the provision of affordable housing, job creation, the role of immigrants, public health and policing, transportation, arts and culture, sports, climate change, and education.  Data for the course will come from studying individual cities including Boston, Newton, Fitchburg, Lawrence, Manila, Mumbai, and Sao Paulo.

Looking forward to seeing you on January 14 for the inaugural lecture!
