World Café

Concluding thoughts from everyone:

Ideas about change:
• We need to remain aware of the tension between the drive to learn and innovate beyond our community’s comfort level and the drive to maintain our community as a homogeneous unit.
• Why has there been no real change in how higher education has been delivered in the last 30 years? (Or has there been change?)
• Great ideas are often met with resistance.
• We need to encourage new/ young academics to work to change the system and value practice/ teaching.

Thoughts about the conference:
• The interactive sessions were helpful in balancing ideas and creating new ones.
• It would be good to have people at the conference (possibly as speakers) who don’t believe in POE. This could help us define our position to make it stronger.

POE as a theory and learning tool:
• How do you produce learning from practice? Would we find a similar view from employers as from educational institutions?
• There continues to be a need for theories of practice – good theories drive practice.

POE movement as a community:
• What experiences do we share in this social movement?
• We must deal with the complications of initiating any new learning “movement” collectively and not individually.
• To what extent can we, ourselves, form a leaderful community?
