The Search for Second-Generation Leptoquarks at the CMS Detector at the LHC

Leptoquarks are hypothetical particles which are the composite of a lepton and a quark of the same generation. A search for pair production of second-generation scalar leptoquarks decaying into two muons and two jets or a muon, a neutrino and two jets is presented using 2 inverse femtobarns of 7 TeV proton-proton collision data at the CMS detector at the CERN LHC. Good agreement is found between data and standard model predictions, and new limits are set on the possible mass and cross-section of the leptoquark.
