The microstructural evolution of materials, including grain boundary and dislocation dynamics, have large ramifications for their macroscopic properties, such as tensile strength and failure. Understanding the dynamics of this evolution will help in the design of stronger materials. We explore these dynamics using the Phase-Field Crystal (PFC) model by examining grain-boundary shearing, stress and curvature driven grain growth.
