I will explain Shannon’s entropy and how it can be used to quantify the information content of a coded message. I will then introduce the von Neumann entropy for a quantum source and show how it plays an analogous role for quantum information. I will then discuss quantum spin chains and show how quantum entropy is related to entanglement and computability of the ground state.
