Departmental Newsletter Spring 2012
Department Chair's MessageWelcome to the second edition of the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences E-Newsletter! On behalf of the faculty, staff, and students, I am delighted to share with you all the wonderful accomplishments that we had since the beginning of 2012.
In April, we moved to our new home – 140 The Fenway Building. The School of Pharmacy and the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences occupy nearly three floors of the building with fully functional labs and offices. Our doctoral students have separate seating areas and there are several conference rooms in the building equipped with state-of-the-art in telecommunication and video conferencing technologies.
Professor Robert Schatz will be retiring from Northeastern after 31 years of service. Bob has had a wonderful career and has touched so many lives. His sense of humor will be sorely missed. He will be staying in Maine near his daughter and enjoying the company of his grandchildren.
Professors Alex Makriyannis and Vladimir Torchilin were honored with the University’s Excellence in Research and Creative Activities Award and University’s Distinguished Professorship, respectively. Both Alex and Vladimir and wonderful colleagues and their contributions to the Department, School of Pharmacy, Bouve College, and the University are deeply appreciated.
Our post-doctoral associates and graduate students continue to shine. Drs. Kevin Cash and Pushkar Kulkarni have received highly competitive post-doctoral fellowships. Jing Xu, Mahmoud Nasr, and Michael Johnson have been honored with specific awards. I am very proud of all our post-doctoral associates and graduate students.
We are also celebrating the 50th anniversary of pharmacy education at Northeastern University. There are so many wonderful events planned and we hope to see you on campus in our new building. For details, visit the anniversary website at www.northeastern.edu/bouve/pharmacy/anniversary/home.html.
