Handicap Parking
In order to park in a handicap space, individuals must purchase a faculty/staff or student parking decal and display a state issued handicap license plate, placard, or hangtag. There is no special handicap hangtag. Handicap parking spaces are located throughout the campus and are available on a first-come first-serve basis. (A list of the facilities with handicap parking spaces in located at the bottom of this page.)
Individuals with mobility impairments who require an alternative to picking up their parking permits at the Cashiers Office may make arrangements by contacting the office at 617-373-2366 or e-mailing us at: parking@finance.neu.edu
If you are temporarily disabled, a letter from your doctor must be presented to the Cashiers Office. The letter should indicate the nature of your disability and the anticipated duration. Pregnancy and obesity in and of itself is not grounds for a handicap pass, unless it constitutes a disabling medical condition. NOTE: The letter will be retained by the Cashiers Office so make copies before proceeding to the office. The Cashiers Office is a secured area and does not have access to a copy machine.
A temporary handicap permit for non-permit holders may be purchased by employees and students for a fee of $15.00 per day. If a department wishes to cover the cost of the handicap permit for a visitor to campus, they can purchase the permit at the Cashier's Office with their University procard. The visitor's vehicle must display a state issued handicap license plate, placard, or hangtag.
Handicap parking spaces are located in the following facilities: Columbus Garage - Renaissance Garage (after 5:00pm for NU permit holders) - Gainsborough Garage - West Village Garage - Hurtig Parking Lot - Arena Parking Lot - North Parking Lot - In addition to the above lots and garages, there are handicap parking spaces next to the Forsyth Building, and behind Shillman Hall.
Special Authorization
Special authorization and permits are required for loading zone and preferred parking.
