Applying for a Permit

Decals are transferable to any vehicle operated by registrant.
However, there is a separate fee for Motorcycles.

There are NO refunds, NO cancellations and NO exchanges of parking permits.
Please make sure that you read and understand all the rules and regulations before apply for a parking permit.

Watch your MYNEU for announcements regarding the availability of applications on-line.

Faculty, Staff and Students can park their vehicles in the Columbus Surface Lot during the first week of the semester in order to pick up their parking decal(s).  NO overnight parking without the proper decals displayed on the vehicle. 

College of Professional Studies (CPS) Evening and Part-Time Evening Graduate students can park their vehicles after 2:30pm in the Columbus Surface Lot during the first two weeks of the quarter/semester in order to pick up their parking decal. NO overnight parking without the proper decals displayed on the vehicle. CPS and Part-Time Evening Students not regularly on campus and unable to pick up their decal during the first two weeks of the quarter/semester can park in the Renaissnance Park or Gainsborough Garage one time while they pick up their decal without a fee.  NOTE: You must present your unpaid parking gate ticket when picking up your decal in order to park for free that day.

Which types of applications are available on the web?

  • Day students: Semester and overnight permits.
  • Law students: Quarterly and overnight permits.
  • Evening students: Annual permits.
  • Full-time benefits-eligible employees: Annual, semester and overnight permits.
  • Part-time Evening Instructors: Annual permits.
  • Alumni/Marino Center (Note: You must send an email to parking@neu.edu indicating that you are an alumnus after you apply for the Evening Student/Alumni permit.)
  • Vendors and outside Contractors: Annual and semester permits.

NOTE: Annual permits are valid only for the current academic year. (Decals are NOT valid for 12 months from the date of purchase.)

Which types of applications ARE NOT available on the web?

Preferred, motorcycle, and replacement parking permits.

  • If you are requesting a Preferred permit or a Belvidere permit, you must send an email to parking@neu.edu after applying for a Day Faculty/Staff Decal.
  • If you are requesting a motorcycle permit, you need to visit the Cashier Office and pay the appropriate fee. A separate fee is required to park a motorcycle in the basement of the Columbus garage. Motorcycles are NOT allowed to park in any other lot or garage on campus.
  • If you are requesting a replacement permit, you should review the information on the Parking Permits page under the link "Replacement Permits."


Does everyone who applies on the web automatically receive a permit?

  • No. An eligibility check will be made for all applications. Applicants will receive e-mail about their eligibility status.
  • Students must be registered for class or on Co-op and must not be blocked, withdrawn or inactive.
  • Employees must be full time benefits-eligible.

How are permits paid for when the permit is applied for on the web?

  • Student permits are charged to their tuition account.
  • Benefits-eligible employees will be charged via payroll deduction.
  • No credit card payments are accepted on the web.


When will I receive my parking permit?

  • After the parking application is completed online, an automatic email response is sent to the email address describing the rest of the process.
  • Applications are reviewed each business day for eligibility. A second email is sent to the applicant informing them of their eligibility status. Eligible applicants are told when they can go to the Cashiers Office to pick up their permit. Applicant will be asked to show NU photo ID when picking up permit. NOTE: Individuals with mobility impairments who require an alternative to picking up their parking permits at the Cashiers Office may make arrangements by contacting the office at 617-373-2366 or e-mailing us at: parking@neu.edu
