I AM Northeastern! What does this statement mean to you? Chances are, that when asked, you announce that you are a student of Northeastern University with an immense amount of pride. Northeastern is, after-all, a top 100 university with a top ranked cooperative education program that is preparing you well for life after graduation. It is no wonder you are proud to be a member of the Northeastern community! With that being said, it is important to keep in mind that the reputation of Northeastern is not only defined by the innovative experiential programs, rapidly expanding global presence, and top notch educational offerings, but also by the actions and performance of its students and graduates. The truth is, whether you realize it or not, what you do and how you act directly impacts the reputation of not only you, but Northeastern University and its faculty, staff, students, and alumni. An exemplary performance at your job or co-op, or becoming positively engaged in the community could leave someone thinking that Northeastern is producing upstanding citizens who are being well prepared for their future endeavors. Just as you may benefit from those who came before you, those who come after you could benefit from your outstanding performances. On the flip side, disrespectful, disorderly, or disruptive conduct, such as frequent noise violations, disruptive gatherings, or a lack of consideration for the fellow community could leave someone with a very negative opinion of Northeastern University - an opinion that can be shared with others, and impact how others view Northeastern students and alumni moving forward. Whether you have just completed your senior year and will be representing Northeastern as an alumni, or you have completed another year in your Northeastern career, please keep in mind that YOU are the greatest ambassadors for the university. When making decisions, think about not only how those decisions could impact you and your individual goals, but also how it could impact the reputation of the university that you proudly attend, and look to positively represent.

The Pledge promotes a safe and peaceful living environment for students and neighbors and helps you better understand community issues in neighborhoods such as Mission Hill, Roxbury and the Fenway.
As a Northeastern student, I know that what I do and how I act, directly affects other members of the community, especially our neighbors. I pledge to represent the values of Northeastern in my actions, whether in interactions with fellow students, neighbors in our local community, or wherever my studies and co-op take me, whether here in Boston, around the country or all over the world. I AM Northeastern!
