On February 25th, Innovations in Oral Health (IOH) and Boston Health Care for the Homeless Program (BHCHP) held an oral health and primary care workshop for six Bouvé co-op students. This workshop is the second of a series of workshops aimed to teach students about the importance of oral health as a central component of primary health care. Jessica Holloman, MS, RDH, and Program Director of IOH developed the 90-minute workshop based on the online oral health curriculum, Smiles for Life, and utilized photos, videos and live demonstration to teach the students how to perform an oral exam.  Students also learned about basic dental anatomy and the etiology of tooth decay before pairing up and performing peer-to peer oral exams. The next two workshops will be held on March 25th and 27th, and will cover oral health risk assessments and fluoride varnish application.
