2014 APHA Conference

This November, the IIOH team had the opportunity to present at this year’s annual APHA Conference, which took place in New Orleans, LA. This year’s conference, themed “Healthography”, attracted over 20,000 health professionals from all over the U.S. Fitting within the theme of the conference, our research focused on the oral health inequities of the Native American population and the importance of developing cultural humility and competencies to provide culturally safe, patient- and population-centered health care. Key messages of the conference ranged from the  celebration of the passing of various public health policies, such as ending smoking in public areas across many states, to the importance of equal access to health care among immigrant populations. We also heard from five former Surgeons General on their success at using their platform to improve health outcomes and make significant improvements in health policy. Next year’s conference will take place in Chicago, IL – we hope to see you there!
