OTC Pain Killers
Classes: Ibuprofen, Acetaminophen, Naproxin, Aspirin
Examples: Advil, Tylenol, Aleve, Motrin, etc.
Short-term Symptoms: pain reduction, fever reduction (acetaminophen only), nausea, diarrhea, dizziness, rash, raised blood pressure.
Long-term Symptoms: not indicated for long-term use.
Use Caution with: alcohol (for all classes), naproxin (Aleve)-should not be used with medicines containing aspirin, individuals taking anticoagulants, or those with high blood pressure; ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin)-should not be used by pregnant women or those with IBS (irritable bowel syndrome), acetaminophen (Tylenol)-extreme caution with alcohol; aspirin-extreme caution with alcohol, anti-diabetic medications, penicillin.
