Hallucinogens
Types: psychedelics, dissociatives, deliriants
Examples: LSD, PCP, Psilocybin mushrooms, Mescaline, Peyote, Ketamine, etc.
Street Names: Acid, Angel Dust, Tripping, Magic Mushrooms, Special K, etc.
Short-term Symptoms: changes in perception, thought, emotion, and consciousness; delusions, altering of senses, synesthesia (blending of the senses-'Seeing music'), trance-like state, increased heart rate and blood pressure.
Long-term Symptoms: flashbacks, memory loss, loss of motor skills, long-term changes in perception and sensory function, depression; there is controversy over whether some of these drugs can contribute to or speed up the onset and/or progression of long-term mental illnesses such as schizophrenia, the evidence that currently exists is inconclusive.
