Graduate Certificate Forensic Accounting Online
In the last decade the accounting business has been transformed by high-profile scandals and financial crises affecting the entire global economy. In response, the government has adopted sweeping new regulations such as the Sarbanes-Oxley 2002 legislation and the financial reform measures enacted in 2010. At the same time, many professional organizations including the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE) have made the prevention, detection, and prosecution of fraud and accounting abuse a top priority.
The online Graduate Certificate in Forensic Accounting, offered through Northeastern University’s College of Professional Studies, is designed to help students master a range of techniques for identifying, collecting, and examining evidence of accounting fraud and abuse. These include identifying misrepresentations on financial statements, reconstructing transactions, and recognizing tax evasion.
Consisting of four required courses, the program also addresses related issues such as investigative accounting and litigation support. The online format makes it easier for working professionals to balance their coursework with other responsibilities, and allows for new forms of interaction and collaboration with faculty and fellow students.
Please note: Effective August 1, 2011 courses from this certificate may not be applied towards the Master of Science in Leadership.
