Suggestions & Reminders
Arrange communication with family and friends
- Decide what is an appropriate amount of time to pass before your loved ones should worry.
- Email is helpful for keeping in contact with family, friends, faculty, and the Office of International Study Programs while overseas.
- An international calling card is also very useful for phoning home. International phone centers are available throughout the world, and can usually be found in the General Post Office. You can obtain a card from a travel agent prior to departure or call your long distance telephone service.
Mail
- Forward your Boston mail to a responsible person who will take care of your paperwork and pay your bills. Consider giving them Power of Attorney.
- Decide where your mail should be sent overseas.
Health
- Remember to take a supply of prescription medicines, including birth control, and keep them in original, labeled containers.
- Bring written prescriptions with you.
- Bring a first aid kit with you.
- Did you get any inoculations or immunizations (if necessary)?
