Students may select courses from the Visiting Student Guide, http://www.ed.ac.uk/studying/visitingstudent/courses/. You will take a minimum of 3 or a maximum of 4 courses depending on the number of credits each course is worth at the University. Situated on the south side of the River Forth, Edinburgh is a stunning, medieval city characterized by winding cobblestone alleyways, spectacular cliff-side views that appear out of nowhere, and an ancient castle perched on a hilltop in the middle of the city. Scotland's spectacular coastline, lochs (lakes), and highlands are within easy reach, and there is regular public transport into England. Scotland is currently experiencing great changes. Nearby the university is the new Scottish Parliament that was established by a 1997 Scottish referendum devolving power from Great Britain. For the first time in centuries, Scotland will have decision-making authority over its domestic issues.
Founded in 1583, the University of Edinburgh is the fourth of Scotland's ancient universities. It has expanded to become one of the largest universities in Britain, and holds a worldwide reputation for excellence in research and teaching in a wide variety of subjects, especially the sciences. The University of Edinburgh has approximately 16,000 undergraduate students. Facilities on campus include a library that supports extensive university research, a sports center with full conditioning gymnasium, and a student union housing 150 clubs and extensive bar and catering facility.
