This program focuses on North American political and social issues, including an understanding of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA). Students with Spanish language proficiency may choose classes from UDLA's regular course offerings. There are some courses taught in English, however this changes each Semester depending on the expertise of visiting professors. In addition, students will usually take at least one Spanish language class.
Students are encouraged to take 2 Spanish Language courses and 2 courses taught in english. Students who are comfortable taking classes exclusively in Spanish may also choose from a variety of courses from UDLA's main course offerings.
Courses taken abroad may satisfy college and departmental core requirements. Students should consult with their advisor to discuss the specific requirements that may be satisfied abroad.
Puebla is located in the south central part of Mexico, only two hours from Mexico City. With wrought-iron balconies and window grating, and the swirling patterns of Talavera tiles, it is considered to be one of Mexico's greatest archetypal colonial cities. Puebla is a host to many museums and noteworthy forms of native arts and crafts. Local fairs, religious processions, musical events, and a lively night life add to Puebla's enjoyable city.
The University of Americas (UDLA) is located five miles from Puebla City, and one half mile from the town of Cholula, which dates back to One BC, and is famous for its pyramids. The University was founded in 1940, and has approximately 5,800 students coming from over 30 countries around the globe. The University offers many opportunities for students to work on their Spanish language skills through academic course work and/or finding conversation partners.
Students may choose to live with either Mexican families or with other UDLA students on campus. Campus housing does not offer a meal plan. Kitchens are located in the dormitory and equipped with a stove, microwave, refrigerator, and freezer. Students who choose to live with a family will reside approximately 10-20 minutes outside of campus. Host families provide 2 meals a day.
Full-time Northeastern student, 2.5 GPA, and middler (third) year or above.

$21,400 per Semester for the 2009/2010 academic year. Includes: tuition, housing, some meals, orientation, and round-trip airfare via Boston.
