Program

The CIEE Study Center at Yonsei University is designed to provide students with cross-cultural training by way of offering a range of courses in various disciplines, a co-curricular program that will take students within the city of Seoul and internationally to communities of the Korean Diaspora, and providing on-site staff to support the students during their time in Seoul, Korea.

Location

South Korea, one of the “economic dragons” in Asia, is a country that embraces both a modern and traditional way of life. Seoul has many museums, galleries, theaters, and cultural venues as well as historic monuments and sites. These give students a historical perspective into Korea’s dynastic periods, which established the intellectual and cultural foundation for modern Korean society. At the same time, Seoul, with stores filled with the latest in mobile technologies, fashion, and “K-pop” music, provides a great backdrop to learn about modern youth culture in Asia.

University

The CIEE Study Center is based at Yonsei University, the most prestigious private institution of higher education in Korea. Founded in 1885, the school now has 18 graduate schools and 20 colleges and a student population of over 38,000 including over 1,000 students from some 20 countries around the world. The University is located less than 20 minutes from downtown Seoul in an area that is home to several other colleges and universities. A full range of sporting facilities include a fitness center, swimming pool, gymnasium, and basketball courts.

Courses

Students take three elective courses and are required to take one intensive Korean language course. All students must enroll in at least one elective course directly related to Korea. Students that exhibit fluency in Korean may be able to take certain elective courses in Korean alongside local Korean students.

Housing

Housing at Yonsei University’s International House dormitory is included in the program fee. The dormitory is a modern facility that provides a comfortable living environment for all international students on the Yonsei campus. Every room is equipped with LAN connections for Internet use, two twin beds, a desk, closet, and bookcase. The housing facility has shared refrigerators and microwave ovens, a lounge, study areas, a recreation area, a lecture and computer room, and laundry facilities. Meals are the responsibility of the student and are not included in the program fee. Meals may be taken at on-campus cafeterias, restaurants, and snack bars and at restaurants throughout Seoul, including one in the dormitory.
