Description

API provides beginning to high-level coursework for both the language and the non-language student, in English (in some locations) and the foreign language of the host country. Choose from courses in Liberal and Studio Arts, Humanities, Business, Language, History, Science and more! Northeastern students can choose from the following two programs:

Language & Culture Studies

This program allows students at the high-intermediate, advanced, and superior levels to build on their French language proficiency while improving their understanding of the French culture and history through numerous electives.

Intermediate (200) level students should be at a high-intermediate level to participate in this program, and must have successfully completed at least 3 semesters of college level French.

Advanced (300) level students must have completed at least 4-5 semesters of college level French.

Superior (400) level students must be near fluent in French.

Intensive Language Studies

This program is designed for intensive language study at all levels. All students will take a comprehensive course that covers writing, oral expression and pronunciation, grammar, and vocabulary. Students will spend 3 hours a day doing class work and 1 hour a day in the lab. This equates to 4 hours a day and 20 hours a week. Classes are Monday through Friday. There will typical be a maximum of 16 students per class. In all semesters, students can progress in their levels during the term. Attendance is required for all classes and will affect the number of contact hours/credits received, as well as have a major impact on your final grades.

Program Site

Grenoble, France is situated in the French Alps, three hours southeast from Paris. It is home to two of the largest and richest natural parks in France and possesses a wealth of art, history and culture. Established in 1389, the University Stendhal is one of the oldest in Europe. A longtime educational institution for French students, the department of the university for foreign students was established in 1896. With over 100 years of history and quality education, the Centre Universitaire d'études Francaises (CUEF) -- (The University Centre for French Studies) has welcomed foreign students from around the world, including celebrities and dignitaries such as the former presidents of Iceland and Germany, and the Princess of Japan.

Accommodation

Most students live with a host family and are provided two meals per day. Depending on availability, students may also have the option of living in a residence hall where no meals are included.

Eligibility Requirements

Full-time Northeastern student, 2.75 GPA, and middler (third) year or above.

Cost

$21,400 per Semester for the 2009/2010 academic year. Includes: tuition, housing, orientation, and round-trip airfare via Boston.
