Description

This intensive six-week summer only program offers students an opportunity to live and study in one of the world's oldest and most prestigious universities. Students take courses through the University of Cambridge's International Summer School in a variety of Arts & Sciences disciplines. The University of Cambridge has offered summer programs to visiting students from around the world since 1923. Teaching is in small seminar classes, offering personal contact with distinguished professors. Students may also participate in numerous activities and field trips sponsored by the University of Cambridge.

Courses

Students can choose to study in one of six specialty programs known as "schools." These include International (Humanities and Social Sciences), Art History, History, Medieval, Shakespeare, and English Literature. Each school usually lasts three weeks and students may combine two different schools to create a curriculum that best meets their academic interests and/or requirements.

Students earn 12 NU Semester hours for studying at Cambridge.

Courses taken abroad may satisfy college and departmental core requirements. Students should consult with their advisor to discuss the specific requirements that may be satisfied abroad.

Destination

The city of Cambridge is not just the University of Cambridge. It is bustling with 109,000 people and a high tech industry that is moving it toward the 21st century. Among Cambridge's cobblestones streets you will find affordable productions of theater, art and music, book shops, summer festivals, riverside pubs, and some of the most interesting architecture in England. Cambridge is also located only one hour by train to central London.

Host University

The University of Cambridge was established in 1209 by several scholars who left the University of Oxford following disturbances in the city. These scholars established residential colleges as institutions of learning which soon evolved into the University of Cambridge. Cambridge has an outstanding reputation for academic excellence and continues to be placed at or near the top of England's rating for quality of teaching and research. There are presently 32 Residential Colleges and approximately 10,000 undergraduate students on campus during the academic year.

Accommodation

Students live in residential colleges located in the heart of Cambridge. Each school has an affiliation with a residential college, and your housing depends on your school of study. Students live in single rooms and share a common living area and bathroom with other visiting students. Each residential college houses 100-150 students and offers its own meal plan, sports clubs, social activities, and resource library. Breakfast and dinner are included.
