Each student will enroll in two courses (a total of 8 credits) - Spanish (4 credits) SPNS 1301 or SPNS 2301 and Health Care Systems and Management Abroad (4 credits) NRSG 4611 or PHTH 4511.Course description:
Global Health Care Systems and Management Abroad NRSG 4611 or PHTH 4511. These courses introduce the principles of leadership and management in the context of interdisciplinary and global health care systems. These courses will present leadership and management theories concepts and models-such as organizational structures and function, power and politics resource allocation, budgeting, quality and safety, working in teams and conflict resolution. Within the context of small groups, students will explore complex problems frequently encountered in the health care environment. NUR U611 includes content specific to nursing majors.Spanish SPNS 1301 or SPNS 2301. Designed for students who are in a Spanish-speaking country, LNS U120 is a beginning level Spanish immersion course and LNS U320 is an intermediate level Spanish immersion course. Offers regularly scheduled intensive language classes, off-campus, which are enhanced by the linguistic and cultural immersion experience. These courses focus on developing grammatical competence with increased focus on oral and aural skills.
During your time in Spain you will be exposed to the economic, political, social, historical and cultural experience of the country and will take Spanish at a beginning or intermediate level. We will travel to several locations in Spain and visit health care centers including hospitals and clinics. In order to better understand the history and culture of Spain, we will visit museums, cultural events and other activities that enhance the experience. As you gain skills in speaking Spanish, you will have opportunities to communicate with native Spanish speakers in a variety of settings.
Prerequisites:
Two faculty references and a successful interview with the group leaders as a part of the application process. Bouve students will be given preference because one of the courses is a requirement for the major.Cost of program:
Summer tuition for 8 NU credits which includes everything except for room and board.Application Process:
