Global Health Care Systems and Management Abroad (NRSG 4611/PHTH 4511) - 4 credits

Dialogues of Civilizations: Globalizations and Social Sciences (INTL 4938) - 4 credits

Course Description: Global Health Care Systems and Management Abroad introduce the student to principles of management and leadership in the context of interdisciplinary study and global health. Within the context of small groups students will explore complex problems frequently encountered in the health care environment in the study countries. Dialogues of Civilization engage the student with the culture, civilization, and people of the countries studied and visited. Students will have an in depth and on-site experience learning the politics, sociology, journalism, human services, law, public policy and or economics and business in the countries of study.

Students who participate in this faculty led study abroad program will do some course work before leaving for Singapore and Thailand. Singapore is a fully developed, multinational city state. We will visit Universities and health care leaders in addition to exploring the dynamic cultural environment. In Thailand we will participate in cultural acclimation learning some Thai language phrases and cultural practices. We will spend a week in Northern Thailand at Khon Kaen University attending some classes, meeting with faculty and doing clinical visits. We will than journey south through Bangkok and travel to the Krabi City beach region noted for its limes stone outcroppings in the Andaman Sea. Students will volunteer at either an orphanage or at the local hospital depending on experience under local Thai supervision and the assistance of the group leaders.

Prerequisites: One faculty letter of endorsement and interview with group leaders. Bouve students will be given preference but other students interested in health care may apply.

Cost of Program:Summer tuition for 8 NU credits plus additional costs TBD.

Turn in two copies of each completed form and two copies of your unofficial transcript to the Office of International Study Abroad Program.
