Course Description: ITLN COURSES: LANGUAGE CONTENT (ITLN 1202, 2201, 2202, 3201, or 3202): All language classes will be provided by the Oxford Mantova University: Oxford Mantova was founded in 1975 and has always dealt with foreign languages. At the beginning it was a state-recognized private linguistic liceo and now it has become a University for Linguistic Mediators which awards a qualification, equivalent to all legal effects to a three-year university degree.
The school is also University Linguistic Centre (CLAM) since 2003 and therefore it plans language courses for the students attending the universities in Brescia, Pavia and the Politecnico in Milan. It was also enabled to give the opportunity to take the Cambridge University examinations and it is recognized centre for TOEFL exams (Internet based test).
Oxford Mantova activities include also translations and interpreting services, conference equipment renting, school and university classes and study tours abroad. From 1975 Oxford Mantova has been organizing language courses in English, French, German, Spanish, Chinese, Russian and Italian.
INTL 4939 CONTENT This course will study the historical, social and cultural impact that the city of Mantova had over the development of Italy and perhaps even the world. It is this course intent, through a cultural, political and anthropological study of the historical and modern reality that is Mantova, to help students bridge gap between what is a common outsider view of an Italian city and its people, and the complex reality that makes up one of the leading cities in one of Europe leading countries.
During the course, we will be studying the social, political, economic and cultural transformations of the city and its surroundings which helped, so dramatically, to turn Italy into one of world's leading industrial democracies. We will start from one of the most culturally and artistically enlightened feudal government of Italy, the Gonzaga, and move all the way through the suffering and recovery of post WWII.
