This program consists of two courses, one in German language and one in German history and contemporary culture. The courses are held in Erlangen Germany. Erlangen is located just north of Nuremberg in the wonderful region of Franconia, Bavaria. Erlangen has been named the "Garden City" because of its beautiful parks and quaint passageways. The city has a vibrant atmosphere, particularly along the "Erlangen Mile" where people gather to shop and dine. The city is home to numerous museums and to the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg, one of the largest universities in Germany. While Erlangen offers a taste of the small-town German experience, the big city of Nuremberg is only 15 minutes away.
German Language Immersion (GERM 1202, 2201, 2202, 3201, or 3202) This is an intensive immersion German course, which focuses on the development of all the four language skills (speaking, writing, listening, reading). Students attend daily intensive language classes each weekday morning (20 hours/week) at a highly accredited language institute. Classes are supplemented by the linguistic and cultural immersion experience and allows to mix up with other course participants from all over the world.
Dialogue of Civilizations Globalization, Humanities, and Cultural Studies (INTL 4939) This course will study German culture and history focusing on the excursions done weekly in order to understand the practical experience better. Students will focus on the history of Erlangen and its connection to the Huguenots, Nuremberg and its most famous son Albrecht Durer, Nuremberg`s role during World War II, Weimar and its history, Germans and their soccer enthusiasm, Germany's beer industry, German theater classics.
