Course Credits: INTL 4939 (4 credits) and FRNH 1202, 2201, 2202, 3201, 3202. (4 credits)
Course Description: The summer language course will include 80 hours of classes in addition to the cultural and historical immersion. Those classes will cover different levels of French in order to satisfy the students� level. The students will be exposed to intensive oral and written skills.
INTL 4939: The lecture will be about the North African Immigration in France and the following topics will be covered:
This course will also offer an intensive training enriched by daily contact with local residents and students. They will encounter challenges in communication and dialogs with the locals and between themselves under our supervision and the animators'.
The cultural part will cover field trips to the following two main historic sites close to Lyon.
Annecy in the Alps: This is a great outing. The old city is wonderful and attracts lots of people. The lake is remarkable and is part of Annecy's reservations. In hot weather, there is a guarded beach to swim in.
Perouges: It is a charming medieval city, where lots of movies were played such as the "The Three Musketeers". One can wander in the street and taste the delicious Pie of Perouges.
Also, during the course there will be many cultural activities: Museums, visiting sites in Lyon, cultural activities, swimming, lakes, zoo, cinema, restaurant, etc.
Paris: At the end of the course we'll take a trip to Paris for a total immersion within the Parisian crowd topped with visits to historical and famous sites such as: Quartier Latin, Les Champs-Elysees, Versailles, Le Louvre, Palais-Royal, Tour-Eiffel, etc.
Pre-requisites: FRNH 1102, 3.0 GPA.
Cost of Program: Summer tuition for 8 NU credits plus additional costs TBD.
Application Process: Download the dialogue of civilizations application and waiver form. Turn in two copies of each completed form and two copies of your unofficial transcript to the Office of International Study Programs in 10 BV. Potential students will be interviewed by Prof. Ziane.
