China - Language (Summer 2)

Course Description: The Chinese Language summer course which takes place in 3 Chinese cities offers intensive Chinese language training and a hands-on introduction to Chinese history and culture. The students will spend 34 days in Zhuhai, 3 days in Hong Kong, and 3 days in Taipei, Taiwan. Hong Kong and Taipei are two very famous international cities among the world. Our tour to Hong Kong will be hosted by an economic professor of Hong Kong Baptist University, while our tour to Taipei, Taiwan will be hosted by a Chinese Education professor of Taiwan Normal University.

The program will be based in the Chinese language center of United International College (UIC), situated in Zhuhai and jointly founded by Beijing Normal University and Hong Kong Baptist University.

Students will take practical Chinese classes 4 hours per day. Every student will be accompanied by a Language partner during the whole 34 days except for the class time. The program also offers extracurricular classes every afternoon, such as Chinese Martial Arts, calligraphy, Chinese paper- cutting, Chinese drama and Chinese movie.

To obtain first-hand experiences of China's working environment, students will participate in academic internships for a 25-30 hours.

Every weekend, students will tour famous historical, cultural and natural sites including Shenzhen and Guangzhou.

Course Credits: CHNS1201, 1202, 1211, 1212, 3201, 3202 Chinese Language Immersion and INTL4939 Dialogue of Civilizations Globalization, Humanities, and Culture. Total of 8 NU credits

Pre-requisites: One semester of Chinese and 2.75 GPA

Cost of Program: Summer tuition for 8 NU credits plus additional costs TBD.

Application Process: Download the dialogue of civilizations application and waiver form. Turn in two copies of each completed form and two copies of your unofficial transcript to the Office of International Study Programs in 10 BV.
