Dates: May 2009 (1 week in France and 3 weeks in Benin, West Africa)

Group leader: Prof. Lori Gardinier

Course description: In this program students will examine West African culture and organizational responses to health, social and human rights issues. Students will develop and in-depth understanding of change efforts through service-learning, lectures, site visits and cultural exchanges. Particular attention is given to the role of international aid, and the political, social and economic conditions in which non-profit organizations operate. Language instruction will be provided for an intensive week in France prior to arrival in Benin, West Africa.

This Dialogue is open to students of any major!

Course credits: Eight Credit Hours� HUSV 4866 Intercultural Studies through Human Services (4 SH) & INTL 4938 Dialogue of Civilizations: Globalization and Social Sciences (4 SH)

Cost of program: Summer tuition for 8 NU credits plus additional costs TBD.

Application Process: The program is open to students of any major. Download the Dialogue of Civilizations application and waiver form (below). Turn in two copies of the completed forms to Office of International Study Programs in 10BV.

Interviews: Top candidate will be interviewed. Interviews will begin shortly after the deadline.
