Apply early. Students are accepted on a first come first serve basis.
Students spend a semester at the Institute of Public Administration (IPA) in Dublin. Students take three courses at the Institute while also interning in the Irish Parliament (the Dail). The internship provides an insiders perspective of the parliamentary system of government that would not be possible in the US. The program may include a weeklong field trip to the European continent to visit the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development headquarters in Brussels, Belgium, and Paris, France. Students also visit Belfast. Trips may or may not be offered every semester.
Students will take the following courses for a total of 16 NU credits.
Courses taken abroad may satisfy college and departmental core requirements. Students should consult with their advisor to discuss the specific requirements that may be satisfied abroad.
Ireland is a small island on which you are never more than an hour’s drive from the sea. It is actually two countries in one. The Republic of Ireland, with a population of 3.5 million, has been independent since 1921. It currently has the fastest growing economy in Europe. Dublin, the capital of the Republic, was founded by the Vikings thousands of years ago. It is a thriving modern city located on the eastern coast. You can explore ruined abbeys, medieval castles, bustling pedestrian shopping areas, museums, restaurants, and pubs.
IPA, a cross between Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government and the Brookings Institute, acts as a center for teaching and research in public policy, politics, and economics.
Students stay with families in the Dublin area. All meals included.

"The Dublin internship program is a challening blend of academics and hands-on political experience. It is both exciting, and rewarding, with many opportunities for students to explore not only Ireland, but Europe and beyond."
