Destination

Xiamen is situated on the southeast coast of Fujian Province, at the estuary of Jiulong River. At the back of Xiamen lies the Zhangzhou-Quanzhou Plain and facing Xiamen across the Taiwan Strait are Taiwan Island and the Penghu Islands. The islands scattered all along the waters beyond the harbor form a natural barrier to protect the harbor from turbulent waves, whereas the mountains surrounding the harbor provide excellent windbreak. Xiamen has always been an important seaport of foreign trade on the southeast coast of China ever since the ancient times.

Host University

The School of Law, founded in 1926 and formerly entitled the Department of Law, is one of the main schools of Xiamen University. It currently offers one undergraduate law major, seven master's programs, a Juris Master (JM) program, two doctoral programs and one postdoctoral research program based on individualized study. The Law School enjoys an exceptional environment with excellent facilities for teaching, learning and research. It is located in a complex of three linked buildings with a ground area of over 10,000 square metres overlooking the sea. The Xiamen University Library has a substantial collection of legal books and materials, and has access to a considerably number of important databases, including the LEXIS-NEXIS. The Law Library, a branch of the main Xiamen University Library is a UN depository library.

Accommodation

Freshmen and sophomores have classes on the Zhangzhou Campus, so have to live on that campus. Juniors and senior students study on the Xiamen Main Campus and are free to choose to live either in a dormitory for overseas students or off campus. General advanced students, Senior advanced students, Language students and Short-term students live in the overseas student apartments on the Xiamen Main Campus. Many overseas students wish to live off-campus once they become more familiar with the environment in Xiamen. Living off-campus makes it easier to meet and establish relationships with local residents. The Overseas Education College staff will help with the necessary formalities for living off-campus. They will advise you of the documents you will need to provide including a letter of consent from your parents.

Students must be a junior or senior CJ major. 3.0 GPA. Please see Gail Horn in the undergraduate CJ office.

Application Procedure

Cost

$19,400 per semester for the 2009/2010 academic year. Includes tuition and round-trip airfare. Housing and meals are not included.
