Description

Situated in the heart of Western Europe, K.U.Leuven has been a center of learning for almost six centuries. Founded in 1425 by Pope Martin V, K.U.Leuven bears the double honor of being the oldest extant Catholic university in the world and the oldest university in the Low Countries. When it was founded, the university was modeled on the universities of Paris, Cologne, and Vienna. In a short time, it grew into one of the largest and most renowned universities in Europe. Its academic fame attracted numerous scholars who made valuable contributions to European culture. The University of Leuven is a modern university, located within the vibrant city of Leuven in the centre of Belgium and close to Brussels, the centre of Europe. K.U.Leuven offers an ideal research and learning environment, rooted in a solid and venerable tradition but with its sights set squarely on the future. p>

Courses

Students may take any courses from the Masters of Criminology program at Katholieke University.

Destination

The city of Leuven is an conglomeration of five communities: Leuven, Heverlee, Kessel-Lo, Wilsele, and Wijgmaal. Leuven has around 90,000 inhabitants. Add to this 35,000 post-secondary and 11,000 high-school students and it should come as no surprise that the streets are filled with young faces and that the city lives at a student's rhythm: hectic weeks at the beginning of the academic year and relative calm during vacation and examination periods. Situated at the very heart of Europe and at the junction of two major European motorways, Leuven is a perfect base for trips within Belgium and abroad. Amsterdam, Paris, London and Cologne are only about three hours away by train.

Host University

Katholieke University of Leuven is an eclectic community of people, with diverse interests, nationalities, and skills. We actively encourage the integration of staff and students. Outstanding student services are central to our vision of a university. Leuven is a dynamic city, surrounded by breathtaking countryside, and teeming with the nightlife, leisure, and cultural opportunities you expect from a major city. Located in the young province of Vlaams-Brabant, and geographically connected to the rest of Flanders through its campus in Kortrijk, K.U.Leuven is working hard to strengthen its profile as a European and international scientific institution. Leuven has an international outlook. Scholars and students from across the globe are our guests, and our own alumni can be found all over the world. K.U.Leuven actively promotes collaboration with foreign universities and research institutions.

Accommodation

About 80% of the university students are accommodated in privately rented student houses. The private housing market offers a wide range of rental units of varying types, price levels, and locations. Because of this variety, all international guests should come to Leuven first, view some properties, and negotiate with landlords personally before signing a contract. For this reason, it is not possible to make a reservation in advance or to arrange permanent accommodation from abroad. The supply of accommodation in residence halls is in Leuven very limited and therefore restricted to specific conditions. Housing Information.
