For Faculty & Staff

The rise in student interest in studying abroad is reflected in our growing numbers of applicants and increased student traffic. This requires that program details are easily accessible to all those responsible for advising our students. This website will give you access to information about our programs, cost, and program dates. If you can't find what your looking for, please contact us at 617-373-5276 or studyabroad@neu.edu

Classroom & Department Visits

If you would like an OISP staff member to make a brief presentation in your classroom or talk to your staff about our programs, please contact our office at studyabroad@neu.edu.
Please include possible dates, time and room location in your email.

Earning Northeastern Credit

Students receive NU credit for all courses taken abroad. They are awarded 4 NU credits per course* regardless of the host institutions credit system. This means that NU course numbers are posted to the transcript, along with the grade received on the foreign transcript. Students must determine the NU equivalent courses with the help of their advisor using a Petition for Course Substitution.

The following is a list of course equivalents that have already been approved by faculty. Students should confirm the NU equvialent on this spreadsheet with an advisor if trying to satisfy a major/minor requirement. This spreadsheet changes on a regular basis as more equivalents are determined. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact our office.

*Exceptions made for Beijing, Tokyo, & Cambridge programs. Please contact our office for further information.

Registration & Cost

Students are placed in division V and registered by country while abroad. Because full-time student status is maintained, students will remain eligible for financial aid. The cost of a semester abroad is charged to the NU student account prior to departure. For the 2007-2008 academic year the cost of our programs were either $18,700 or $16.700. Please refer to the program fact sheets for more information.

Short Term, Faculty-Led Programs

Faculty interested in leading a 8 credit short term program abroad during a summer session or leading a winter/spring break trip which is embedded into a regular semester course, should contact Dawn Anderson, (617) 373-5162 for more information. A proposal form and budget template can be found in Step 2, forms.
