Visas

US Citizens
Participants with a US passport will need to apply for a Pre-Entry Clearance (PEC) or visa, through the British Consulate. Participants will apply for their visa under the Tier 4: (General) Student of the points-based system. This particular type of visa provides students with permission to volunteer in the UK.

Please see FIE’s Student Visa Guide for visa information. Students may also visit the UK Visas and Immigration website for more detailed information.

Participants will not be ready to submit a student visa application until they receive their Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) statement from FIE in early June. However, we recommend that students begin researching the process and gathering materials for their visa application beginning in mid-May. After April 6, 2014, obtaining a Tier 4 (General) Student visa will cost £310, or around $514 USD (as of 3/13/14). Please note: As visa regulations are subject to change, it is important that students continue to check the UK Visas and Immigration regulations.

Passports

All N.U.in participants will need a passport. Those who do not already have a passport should apply for one as soon as possible. US Citizens can find more information at the US Department of State passport website. Passports must be valid for at least six months beyond the student's scheduled program end date.

Passports that are due to expire on or before June 6, 2015 should be renewed now.
