George Bernard Shaw famously said, “England and America are two countries separated by a common language.” N.U.in England is an opportunity to discover the historical and cultural layers beneath Shaw’s statement: What do we continue to share with the nation and people of England, what separates us, and how is our four-century relationship evolving in an increasingly global society?
N.U.in England works in collaboration with the Foundation for International Education (FIE) to foster an environment of global citizenship and connect participants academically and socially to London’s culture. Participants take courses at the Foundation House, where they have the opportunity to engage with peers from around the world, and live in FIE’s Kensington housing, in a neighborhood that is home to London’s world-renowned museum district. Along with their core studies, participants will connect with London’s diverse community, history, and wealth of cultural offerings through N.U.in-sponsored activities, service learning, and through their own initiative and interest.
To participate in N.U.in England, participants must be at least 18 years old on the date of departure.
Partnership
The Foundation for International Education (FIE)
The N.U.in England Program partners with the Foundation for International Education. FIE was founded in 1998 and has approximately 25 full-time staff members. In addition, FIE employs about 50 faculty members on a part-time basis. Their mission is to provide high quality educational experiences to the global community. In pursuit of these goals, FIE is committed to the development of creative learning environments wherein an understanding of, and appreciation for, the privileges and responsibilities of international citizenship is fostered. This commitment is driven by the belief that interaction between people of diverse cultures is the base upon which empathy among nations is built.
