Northeastern Students4Giving

is proud to announce the recipients of the

2012-2013 Northeastern Students4Giving Grants.

Following a rigorous, student-led review process that spanned two semesters, NS4G concluded its 2012-2013 grant making cycle with two awards.

Applicants for these grants utilized The Giving Common, a free online resource operated by the Boston Foundation to facilitate philanthropy, by creating online profiles that provided information about themselves for potential donors.

Program funding was awarded for two funding priorities selected by NS4G students:

Community Mental Health: In particular, we sought to fund an organization that works to overcome economic, social, and cultural barriers to mental health care access in low-income, under-served or marginalized communities. Such barriers could include, but were not limited to language, immigration status, lack of culturally appropriate services, stigma, lack of health insurance, lack of awareness, and logistical challenges such as transportation or child care. 

$10,000 was awarded to Bridge Over Troubled Waters to hire an additional half-time, year-round mental health counselor to fill previous gaps in service during the year for runaway, homeless, and street youth in Boston and surrounding communities.

Post Incarceration Reintegration: This grant was intended to address the persistent challenges associated with reintegration as well as those created by the high number of drug-related convictions recently vacated in Massachusetts. We sought to fund an organization that helps formerly incarcerated individuals reduce their risk of recidivism, successfully re-engage with their families and community, and pursue a personal path to success. 

$10,000 was awarded to Interseminarian-Project Place, Inc. for an expansion of their highly successful CREW program by creating an Employment Career Center and re-entry support group for women.  This grant will serve a need for additional women’s re-entry services, with the hope that the career center and re-entry support group can be used as models for future projects.
