Summer jobs for teenagers are increas­ingly hard to find. Only 3 out of every 10 teenagers held a full– or part-​​time job in July of 2011. In 1989, that rate was nearly twice as high: nearly 6 of every 10 teenagers from 16 to 19 years old held jobs, and even in July of 2005, the Bureau of Labor Sta­tis­tics reported that more than half of 16– to 19-​​year-​​olds were employed.
