AUDIO: If you use the MBTA to com­mute to work, you know it can take a very long time to travel just a few miles. But, if you’re black, chances are your com­mute on the MBTA is longer than your white coun­ter­parts– to the tune of 66 hours longer per year if you take the bus to work.

A new set of sta­tis­tics released by North­eastern Uni­ver­sity shows a huge racial gap among those who com­mute to work in Greater Boston. Callie Crossley spoke with the Dukakis Center for Urban and Regional Policy’s Stephanie Pol­lack about what causes this dis­parity and what the MBTA and the city could do to make trans­porta­tion more acces­sible in the majority minority city.
