North­eastern Uni­ver­sity is asking the Pen­tagon to rein­state its tuition assis­tance pro­gram for active-​​duty mil­i­tary mem­bers, which has been sus­pended due to the gov­ern­ment shutdown.

The uni­ver­sity has stepped in to fill the funding gap for the two dozen ser­vice mem­bers at North­eastern who could have been affected. Still, Michael Armini, Northeastern’s senior vice pres­i­dent of external affairs, says the school wants to draw atten­tion to the issue for stu­dents who attend schools that are not taking steps to fill the gap.
