There will be very dif­ferent expe­ri­ences in states expanding Med­icaid versus not choosing to,” says John Auer­bach, director of the Insti­tute on Urban Health Research at North­eastern Uni­ver­sity who was state public health com­mis­sioner between 2007 and 2012. “There will be a bifur­ca­tion in the nation. Those with a true com­bi­na­tion of shared respon­si­bility and increased access will have an expe­ri­ence like in Mass­a­chu­setts, and those that don’t will be quite different.”
